In the Know...

If your a Artist you should know these things

As the owner for my Art business I too have a Dun & Bradstreet number. read on...

Arts Action Alert 12-7-09
Sign up and be counted as part of Wisconsin's creative industries-get your DUNS number today!

If your for-profit or non-profit business has a Dun and Bradstreet (DUNS) number, you'll be counted in the Wisconsin edition of Americans for the Arts' annual national Creative Industries: Business & Employment in the Arts reports.  If you don't have a DUNS number, get one today!  Click here for instructions.

These reports offer a research-based approach to understanding the scope and importance of the arts to the nation's and Wisconsin's economy. While most economic impact studies of the arts have focused on the nonprofit sector, Creative Industries is the first national study that encompasses both the nonprofit and for-profit arts industries.

The creative industries are composed of arts businesses that range from non-profit museums, symphonies, and theaters to for-profit film, architecture, and advertising companies. Arts businesses and the creative people they employ stimulate innovation  in today's global marketplace.

The source of the data is Dun & Bradstreet-widely acknowledged as the most comprehensive and trusted source for business information in the United States-which provides very specific and reliable data about employment and the number of arts-centric businesses in both the nonprofit and for-profit arts.

Nationally, there are 686,076 businesses in the U.S. involved in the creation or distribution of the arts. They employ 2.8 million people, representing 4.20 percent of all businesses and 2.04 percent of all employees, respectively. The source for these data is Dun & Bradstreet, the most comprehensive and trusted source for business information in the U.S.

As of January 2009, Wisconsin is home to 10,571 arts-related businesses that employ 44,895 people. These arts-centric businesses play an important role in building and sustaining economic vibrancy. They employ a creative workforce, spend money locally, generate government revenue, and are a cornerstone of tourism and economic development.

Americans for the Arts will begin compiling the 2010 data as of January, so Arts Wisconsin strongly encourages all Wisconsin arts businesses to make sure they have a DUNS number online NOW.  The more businesses and organizations registered, the more Wisconsin's creative industry will be recognized for its power, strength and diversity.

Americans for the Arts has all the info you need to register for a DUNS number.  Click here for step-by-step instructions.

The 2010 data will be released by April 2010, and Arts Wisconsin will spread the word about this powerful information.  Thanks for registering today!

Wisconsin Regional Artists Association

From their site:

What is WRAA and WRAP?

WRAA is the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association, a non-profit organization of over 500 non-professional artists from the state of Wisconsin and beyond.  WRAA works closely with the Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP) through the UW-Madison, Department of Liberal Studies and the Arts to provide educational resources, opportunities to exhibit and encouragement to the artistic development of its members.

WRAP is the Wisconsin Regional Art Program, developed and administered by the UW-Madison's Department of Liberal Studies and the Arts. WRAP exhibits/workshops began in 1940 to encourage the creative growth of Wisconsin non-professional artists from rural areas. WRAP exhibit/workshops are held throughout the year and all around the state.  Regional exhibits include a workshop day for participating artists and the public in which a guest artist gives a lecture or demonstration, then the judge leads an educational critique of the exhibited artwork.  Participants may exhibit up to three pieces of art in any WRAP exhibit/workshop.  State Award works are eligible to exhibit at the Annual State Art Exhibition and Conference held in September each year in Madison.

Guildess is a contemporary female art collective based in Milwaukee, WI. Guildess was started by Miranda LevyBrittany Parker in January 2009. Our goals are to grow, learn, network, and serve the community together. We host regular Gallery Night shows (which men and women are both invited to enter) and a yearly member’s show. Each exhibition benefits a local charity. We also organize educational workshops and social events for members. We meet monthly to critique art, chat, laugh, eat and plan upcoming events.
